Post 7 strings?
I was listening to a lot of brutal death metal recently... well mainly Nile >_>. But anyways, I was wondering, what are some decent 7 string guitars for under 900ish? I'm just looking for something that I can play heavier tunings without having to drop the entire guitar like 4 steps or something.

I've seen some Jacksons or Ibanez... so I'm just looking around here. Any pointers? I'd prefer 24 frets... 25 1/2 scale... Passive or Active pickups, whatever you can find, and a fixed bridge. (is a must.. not that there are many 7 strings with tremolos...)

Thanks.

Oh, and I know Nile doesn't use 7 strings.

Schecter Omen Series are below that price range and play fucking nice from what i've experienced with them, my next guitar will either be a 7-string or a variax

Schecter is THE way to go if you are thinking less expensive 7 strings... I personaly think they sound better than a lot of the Ibanez ones but I am hella biased. Just swap some EMG's into em

Schecters are well-built but on average have thicker necks than Jackson, Ibanez, LTD, etc. Also Schecter 7-strings have a 26.5" scale which handles the tension of the low B a bit better but may take a bit of getting used to. I play 27" 7s now and the adjustment from 25.5" was pretty smooth.

OP I recommend you check out http://www.rondomusic.com and look through some Agile 7s, they offer a wide range of options as far as 6, 7, 8 strings, different scale lengths, different finishes and woods. They're all well within your price range too. Agiles are about as much bang for your buck as you can get, they stand up easily against comparably-priced Ibanez, Schecter or LTD guitars.

Allow me also to whore out a couple of 7-strings I have for sale. I'm up in Kamloops but I'm happy to ship if you're interested. Here's the two ads on CL:

http://kamloops.en.craigslist.ca/msg/1708549072.html
http://kamloops.en.craigslist.ca/msg/1708542415.html

And btw there are shitloads of 7-strings with tremolos. You should sign up at http://www.sevenstring.org and have a look around. :horns:

Nice guitar, good choice. I had a six-string Ibanez VBT with many of the same specs as that Xiphos - maple thru mahogany, Wizard II neck, Gibraltar bridge, D-Activators. I sold it because I don't get along with V shapes, but it was a solid guitar, played nice and had a good thick metal tone.

One thing with the Xiphos is that a lot of owners move the upper strap button to a different spot because the guitar tends to be neck-heavy. Not a big deal. Most X-shaped guitars do the same thing.

Nice choice of guitar. :shred:

Also a good choice, will probably be about the same build quality as the Xiphos. :horns:

Nothing wrong with either of 'em.

Yeah, but the most I can POSSIBLY afford is 1 grand. Additionally, Playing V's are really hard for me (as I'm a massive failure when it comes to this) and Deans are stupid expensive.

As for the Xiphos, what was wrong with it? Just overall it didn't live up to your expectations? Or was there something that really bothered you?

The neck is retarded. Honestly it was the worst feeling guitar i've ever played.

Ahhh so you want a spiky heavy metal guitar... That second one looks great.. I've never been a huge fan of not having inlays in the frets though :P

HEY! It's my other guitars bigger brother. This guy has a hybrid Kahler, so you can lock it. I'm still working on how the fuck to lock my other Hybrid Kahler... but yeah.

My other: http://www.bcrich.com/warlock_kerryking ... Series.asp

So does anyone know how to lock the Kahler hybrids?

Agreed 100%. Schecter have the 7-string thing figured out. I'll probably never buy another brand when it comes to extended range guitars.

What did you end up getting? I've got THIS and absolutely love it except that it's very 'head heavy' so I have to fight it to keep it balanced sometimes.

I ended up getting a 6 string LTD V 401 (fixed bridge) I LOVE it so much. I don't think I'm ready for a seven string yet, my next guitar probably will either be a similar guitar to what I have or (more likely) a seven string..... but I'll have to see.
