 Half-Stack Reccomendations
I'm in the market for a new amplifier, basically, I'm looking for something loud and that doesn't look half-bad.
I have a line 6 podxt live so I really don't give a shit about how good the distortion channel is because I use the clean channel for it. I need something that won't die during live gigs and lasts a decent amount of time. Also, I'd prefer a solid state amp because I tried out a few tube amps today and I wasn't too impressed, also maintenance is something i'd rather avoid while on my shitty university budget.
I went to a guitar center today and tried out a Raven rg100h
It sounded pretty awesome when played with a Schecter and looks pretty sweet.
I was amazed at the price, it was only about 500$ for the half-stack. I found out that guitar center makes these amps and that's why they're so cheap.
any opinions/suggestions?

 Re: Half-Stack Reccomendations
I got a Randall G2 RH200 solid state 200 watt head brand new about 4-5 years ago at Tom Lee for $370. Your xt live aside, it's got very good tonality. Never had an issue with it, very reliable. Probably find em used for even cheaper now.
A good cheap cabinet to look into is Crate. Cannibal Corpse uses them so how bad could they be? Hope you found this helpful.

 Re: Half-Stack Reccomendations
If you're hell bent on using the pod and going solid state, then get the cheapest head you can find and sink the rest into your cab. With a few ultra crap exceptions, solid state is solid state is solid state. The more wattage you have, the more clean headroom you have and the more headroom you have, the better able the rig is to replicate the tones that your pod is attempting to replicate. But the cab is where you want to make sure you don't skimp. Peavey's cabs are good bang for the buck, decent speakers and well built cabinets (exception being the old 5150s where the baffle wasn't properly affixed down the back, they had a horrific buzz).

 Re: Half-Stack Reccomendations
hey, thanks everyone for suggestions. I've started looking around for a quality cabinet, and yesterday I went to a Darkest Hour/Veil of Maya show and they were using Orange and EVH amps, and it sounded really good, so I started looking into those. http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=424071I'm still not sure about the head yet, probably gonna be something cheap in the 200-300$ range that I would upgrade eventually.

 Re: Half-Stack Reccomendations
I'm completely changing my strategy for finding a new amp. I'm selling my Podxt Live to Bahraini Death Metal band Lunacyst. And I'm gonna get myself a good tube amp. I've been looking at either the Peavey 6505 or the Rivera K-Tre, anyone have any experience with either of these?

 Re: Half-Stack Reccomendations
Honestly, go with an ENGL Thunder 50 or a 6505+. Don't cheap out at this point, for 1-200 more $ than the 6505, and you can get yourself either an ENGL, which speaks for itself (I played it a lot, it's a fantastic little head. The major drawback is only one EQ), or the 6505+ which is like the 6505 but without the ultramegashitty clean. It's still bad, but much better than the 6505. Honestly, my personal choice is the Thunder, but I'm an ENGL whore. The clean ENGL tone is much better in my opinion than the Fender ones. The distortion is much better and tighter than anything else save custom amps.
-edit- Save the higher end ENGL's as well, of course.

I've gotta strongly recommend the Peavy here...

 Re: Half-Stack Reccomendations
Peavey is good, but as stated I'm an ENGL whore, so my amp of choice is ENGL. Love love love love it's tone.

 Re: Half-Stack Reccomendations
I thought about giving the ENGL amps a try.. then realized that both the new Haunted and Dark Tranquility CD's used ENGL amps and I distinctly recall bitching about how horrible i thought the guitars sounded on those CDs haha
