Post Local clubs for "ambient" music?
A long-lost family member is coming in for a visit the week before Halloween, and I'd love to take her to a show (something in a club - ie. CHEAP, compared to a full-blown concert). She's into ambient stuff; to use her words, "I do love ambience! Andy Mckee, Mogwai, Boards of Canada, Plastic, infected mushrom. mmmmmmm"

Now, I dig ambient too (The Orb, Thievery Corp, oldtimers like Jean Michel Jarre - mostly just familiar with the more well-known names) but I have NO idea what kind of scene there is in town, if any, or where one would look for any such live performances. Any suggestions from the diverse BRMH braintrust??

Well New Music Vancouver is putting on a festival at the Scotia Dance Centre Oct. 21-24 but as this is a concert with tix $20 may not be what you are looking for.

http://www.newmusic.org/index.htm

I also know the individuals that put on shows at this place called the vinegar factory. They do anything experimental, free improv, noise, and yes ambient. Im not sure of anything upcoming as Im under the impression they are involved in the festival above. If you're interested I can pm you their email

I played a show at this place called The Sinking Ship but I think that they've stopped doing shows.

A place on granville does some abstract music shows as well

Well there's my two cents, hope this helps you out a bit

$20 ain't bad. I'll look into that, thanks. I'll check out some of the other suggestions, too.

Much appreciated!
