Post Cheers Nightclub = Club Envy
Cheers in North Delta is toast after New Year's Eve. Here's the info, from their FaceBook group.

"It's doors opened more than 15 years ago and it's stage has be graced by many. The Backstreet Boys, Ashanti, Busta Rhymes, Glass tiger, Boyz 2 men Econoline Crush and many more. On December 31st ( New Years Eve) Prox, Burning Borders, Wakefield Drive and The Veer Union will be the last to perform at Cheers Nightclub. As of January 1st our doors will be closed. Cheers will be no longer. Let's make this a night to remember. Join us for one hell of a party. Tickets on sale now at Allstars & Cheers."

The last time we played a show @ Cheers, there were like 6 squad cars waiting in the parking lot after the gig, just waiting for some shit to go down. I think there were more cops in the parking lot than there were people in the audience that night  It's been a bit of a rough bar over the years, but they mainly do rap shows so that's what you get with that crowd.

It was a cool looking venue, big stage, great PA, cool lights. But the drinks were way too expensive and not too many people ever ventured out there to see shows. I won't miss the place that much.

Yeah that was the shame of that place was that it had a good setup, better than most really, but then you realize you're still at Cheers! It sure sucks that there are not more venues with that good of a stage and equipment but when nobody can or wants to take the risk on live music what can you do?

Yeah thats pretty much the slow and skinny of it man. I wonder if Cheers was closer to Vancouver or a skytrain station it would have done better with live music.

Surrey is right across the street so you basically get all the Surrey riffraff comin over to that club. Couple that with a very bored Delta Police force, and you get a few thousand visits over the years.

I think Soundy was being sarcastic again.

The good news is that it looks like the new owners are shutting down the name Cheers.

Then they are going to be doing renovations in the new year and split it into two venues, with one side hopefully still having the stage and stuff for live bands. and the other a more chill out bar area.

So we may not have seen the last of live bands in the area, and they said that they plan to have much better security and less tolorence on bad violent behaviour.

Do you mean inexpensive? or just plain-old, watered-down, off-brand, too-much-ice-and-not-enough-booze-in-the-glass cheap?

I mean cheap like $4 for a bottle of Smirnoff Ice (vs. $6-$7 at most places)!

Crap turnout for Colinofthedead's last gig. Don't know much else, and some people don't get paid if the turnout is low. I know you are fishing for info to play there.

Pretty good-sized room, good sound, wicked lights, lotsa fog, HUGE stage with what could be considered "dance platforms" leading up to it.

Packing the room shouldn't be hard if you don't suck!

I dunno about playing, but it's a great place for pics!

I went to a gig at envy tonight, Tyrannicide and Excruciating Pain and someone else who I missed. Decided to go drinking instead.

Shit crowd. My buddy is the drummer for Tyrannicide, there was no mosh whatsoever, probably 40 people tops in the whole building. Me = disappoint

And drunk. Drinks were not that cheap either. 4.75 for dos equis and 5.00 vodka highballs. Cash only.

What a greasy place to rock out. Interesting folks though. A guy there I met is an audio engineer who says he'll record anyone and anything, 1 song free for starters. After that like $10/hr studio time, maybe check em out if anyone's looking for some easy cheap recording. He gave me a business card, Cam's Mobile Studio, 778-987-3534, coneil@live.ca
Has an AE degree apparently, he's recording Tyrannicide's new album.

Btw forgot my login pass. Fuckit new login only takes 2 mins. In a few years ya'll'll see Sendrith27 or so.

Does ANYONE go to metal shows in Delta? I had the same experience with a pretty strong bill (including a band from Delta). I chalked it up to no promo whatsoever though. Really nice place with a stage and 2 smaller stages you can hop onto. I enjoyed playing there but it seemed like such a waste...
